Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent, the Maintenance Worker I is a non-exempt position under FLSA which performs manual labor for the department.  This employee performs maintenance for the parks and may assist other divisions of public works.  This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective communication and public relation skills.


The essential job functions are:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of signage in the park system;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks, ditches, roads in and around park system;
  • Removes debris from parks and ditches, including fallen trees and trash;
  • Removes snow and ice during inclement weather in the park system and assists the street department when needed;
  • Maintains city parks, including mowing and trash removal;
  • Maintains city parks including turf management, trimming, seeding and fertilizing, landscaping, mowing, and playground inspections;
  • Performs maintenance at the swimming pool including draining the pool, clearing the lines, adding anti-freeze, adding chlorine;
  • Conducts tree trimming;
  • Performs repair and maintenance on all parks equipment;
  • Operates a variety of equipment to accomplish tasks including: backhoe, loader, dump truck, welding equipment, mowing.
  • Follows department policies and procedures;
  • Follows safety procedures and practices;
  • Maintains facilities.

Minimum Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 60 days of employment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Continuous employment with a Municipality as Maintenance Worker I, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Certifications in turf management, arborist, chemical applicators, Aquatic Facility Operator, Playground Safety Inspector certifications are preferred.

Salary range is $32,302.40 to $43,596.80 annually and is a non-exempt position. No City residency required. Application deadline: Open until filled with first review Jan. 31, 2018.
