KPERS Retirement (including disability and death benefits)

All eligible employees are enrolled in either the Kansas Public Employment Retirement System (KPERS) or the Kansas Police and Fire Retirement System (KP&F). Employee contribution percentages of gross wages are set by the State of Kansas. City contributions are actuarially determined each year and are a higher percentage than contributed by the employee.

Deferred Compensation (457 Plan)

The City of Spring Hill participates in the State of Kansas Deferred Compensation Program. Deferred compensation is an optional plan that allows employees to postpone receiving part of their current salary until retirement. Employees pay no federal income taxes on the salary deferred or on any investment earnings until received.

Workers Compensation

Worker’s compensation provides for hospitalization, medical and physician’s expenses, loss of pay, and death benefits for any employee injured or killed by an accident arising out of or in the course of their employment with the city. The cost of this insurance is paid by the city.

Life Insurance

The City of Spring Hill offers life insurance through MetLife Insurance. The City pays 100% of the individual premiums.

Educational Assistance Program

The City of Spring Hill encourages employees to take advantage of educational and vocational opportunities. All full-time employees are eligible for reimbursement for tuition and books for college credit courses taken to help improve their performance in their current position or better prepare them for promotion to related and higher-level positions. Program eligibility requirements and limits apply.

Paid Leave

The City offers a very generous paid leave program that includes vacation leave and sick leave (accruals are based on length of service); scheduled and personal holidays (combined total of nine per year); philanthropic leave; military leave; bereavement leave; and sick leave.
